Como eu disse em um desenho anterior que eu postei aqui, eu baixei o primeiro jogo de ‘’The Legend of Spyro’’, e resolvi fazer um review. ;D

Talvez eu faça um review da trilogia completa, isto é, quando eu terminar. =p

As I said in an earlier drawing I posted here, I downloaded the first Legend of Spyro game, and decided to do a review, because I felt like it ;D
I might review the whole trilogy, when I finish it, that is. =p

Review: The Legend of Spyro – A New Beginning (PS2)

First of all, let me tell you guys that I have never played Spyro before. I do know that the previous games were completely different, and this one is a complete restart in the series, in story, gameplay, and overall design. I know that some fans were pissed about this, much like when something similar happened to Crash, and honestly, I can’t blame then, because I’ve been through this with Banjo.

With that being said, this review is made by someone who is playing a Spyro game for the very first time.
Lets’s start then! /o/
(Spoilers ahead)
Every 12 years, there is the ‘’Year of the Dragon’’, a time when new dragons are born. Every 10 generations, a purple dragon will be born, and I bet you can tell where this is going =p. So yeah, the temple where the eggs are is attacked, and Ignitus, who was taking care of them flies off with Spyro’s egg and leave it to drift downriver into a swamp. A family of dragonflies find the egg and decide to adopt him. That same day, Sparx the dragonfly was born, and they were raised like brothers.

Eventually, Spyro discovers that he isn’t a dragonfly, meet Ignitus, yadda yadda, and decide to save the world. Along the way, Spyro goes freeing the other Dragon Guardians (There’s 4 of them, for fire, ice, earth and electricity. Ignitus is the fire dragon =p)

Eventually, Ignitus is captured too (by Cynder, the game’s antagonist. She is under control of ‘’The Dark Master’’, the super-special-awesome-evil-dragon who doesn’t even show up in this game XD) so Spyro goes rescue him, beat the shit out of Cynder, sets her free from the Dark Master controls, and conveniently loses his powers at the last battle, so you can, you know, learn it all over again in the next game ;D.
(End of the Spoilers)

The story is… Ok, I guess. I mean, seeing the epic trailer, I was kind of expecting more XD.
Graphics are nice enough, but it what really bugs me is enemy variety. You’ll be almost always fighting some shitty apes, and recolored versions of them in future stages. And talking about the stages, they’re the pretty cliché ambient, but it’s not like it’s a bad cliché, anyway ;D.
The GCs aren’t all that great either, but there aren’t that many anyway =p

Now, for the most important aspect of every game, the gameplay. It’s fun to pick up and play, but it gets old really fast (luckily the game’s only like 6 hours long =p) You see, the control works fine, though controlling Spyro jumps can be a pain in the ass sometimes. The main problem is that it’s just way too repetitive. Basically, a bunch of apes come for you, and you have a small variety of combos to kick their asses. But there’s just way too much stuff to fight, and you end up just button mashing through the whole thing.

Now, there is also your magic breaths, fire, that is standard fire out of your mouth, and does some hellish damage once you upgrade it.

Ice, which is basically the same, but turns small enemies into snowballs, which is not helpful at all. Then there’s electricity, that is only useful when you’re near a cliff, or somewhere where you can throw the enemies, because this breath does just that, throws enemies around.

And finally, there’s the earth breath, that you shoot from your mouth to hit far away guys =p. And of course, Spyro has a bar that when it’s full, can be used to kill all enemies in the room.
Supposedly, some breaths are more effective against certain enemies than others, but the difference is almost nonexistent, so I just put everything on fire =p.

There’s also some shooter stages on rail, where you fly with Spyro, but these are so bland and uninteresting, that aren’t even worth mentioning. Yet I did. Go figure XD

The sound of the game is a mixed bag. Music isn’t really catchy, which is a letdown for me, but it does fit the ambient well, so is passes. The music used in the tittle screen is beautiful, though. Voice acting is just awesome. Elijah Wood (Frodo, from The Lord of the Rings) plays Spyro, and Gary Oldman (Sirius, from Harry Potter) plays Ignitus. I don’t really know the other, but they do a decent job as well XD (Well, except for the voice of Sparx, which I thought it was really bad at first, but eventually I got used to it)
I have no idea how the past voices were (if there was any), so yeah =p

Replayability is very low, I don’t really see me playing trough this again anytime in the future, the game is very linear, and the only extra is unlockable after beating the game. (An interview with Elijah Wood, which is pretty interesting, but way too short)

So yeah, overall, Legend of Spyro will maybe offer you an afternoon of fun, if you don’t go crazy with all the repetitiveness, that is XD
I give it a 6/10 for what it tries to be. Too bad the execution is lacking a lot =/ But as I said, it can be fun sometimes, and is really short, so if you don’t have anything better to do, give it a go ;D

Spyro foi um dos jogos da minha infância.
Apesar de eu não lembrar porra nenhuma da estória, gostava muito, e percebi pelo review que esse aí não chega aos pés dos antigos XDD
E bom, não gostei da cara nova dele XDD
